About us
True Faith Community Church had its birth near the beginning of Advent 2022. Our members come from diverse Christian backgrounds, from Catholic to Baptist, but we all share in common a love for the Lord Jesus Christ and a commitment to hold fast to his Word. How are we organized? What do we believe? How do we worship? Keep reading to find out more about us…or even better, come join us on a Sunday morning and experience first-hand the love, grace, and joy of God in our community!
Independent
TFCC is not affiliated with a specific denomination. During our first few months together, we spent a season in prayer and conversation, seeking God’s will for our congregation. We decided, nearly unanimously, that it was best for us to remain independent.
We are independent, but we are not isolated. From the beginning, we believed that we must have an impact locally and globally. We have partnered with ministry organizations from Santa Fe, Texas, to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We are continually looking for more ways to be involved in ministry opportunities from our own neighborhoods to the ends of the earth.
We are independent, but we are connected to the Church universal. We believe that like-minded churches should cooperate in ministry, outreach, and missions. As we become established, we are reaching out to churches in Santa Fe and Galveston county to join together in God’s work.
Traditional
A word like ‘traditional’ can mean different things to different people. What do we mean when we call ourselves ‘traditional’?
TFCC professes the traditional beliefs that Christians have held through the ages, as confessed in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds. While we have differing views on some of the finer points of theology, we hold to the old motto, “In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
TFCC holds the traditional view that worship is sacramental. That is, we believe the Holy Spirit is working through the God-ordained means of words, water, bread, wine, and prayer to create, nourish, and sustain our faith.
TFCC affirms traditional Christian views of Scripture, marriage, family, vocation, and community. While these are out of fashion in many places, we believe they are an essential part of the Church being ‘salt and light’ in a dark and dying world.
Defining ’Evangelical’ can be tricky. Kevin DeYoung has written a great single-sentence definition that describes us well:
“An evangelical is someone who embraces the solas of the Reformation (salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone, according to Scripture alone), resonates with the emphasis on the new birth and the reviving work of the Spirit found in the Great Awakening, believes in the complete trustworthiness of the Bible contra the liberals and modernists, accepts the responsibility of world evangelization and social engagement as modeled by countless missionaries and reformers, rejects the obscurantism that marked parts of fundamentalism, and, in distinction to the pragmatists and postmoderns, affirms the importance of doctrinal propositions and the knowability of truth.”
This says a lot but is a great summary of what it means to be an Evangelical.
